It seems there are no official methods on Twitter to check if a person you're following is also following you in return. In addition to public updates and @replies, you can send followers private tweets, called direct messages, too. If someone is following you, you can send a direct message from the web via the “message” link on the profile page. To check for direct message sending, you should go to http://twitter.com/ your_twitter_username /following (replace your_twitter_username with your own Twitter username).
