Web hosting: Website hosted on Hostmonster is slow? It’s because CPU is being throttled

Posted on 07. Sep, 2009 by in Internet Life, Web Buzzz

Hosting problems with Hostmonster? Website inaccessible?

Hostmonster has got powerful servers, but in order to avoid overloading and hardware failures, they have recently implemented a new way of dealing with high traffic websites hosted with them. They won’t suspend such websites, but instead will throttle the CPU for these accounts, so the website looks like it’s loading, and never shows up. If you are having problems with this hosting, you should probably check you CPU throttle page @ Hostmonster (inside Hostmonster cpanel). If it says that “Your account has been actively experiencing CPU throttling…”, then you should probably look for a better hosting, or loose visitors and money.

Ok I am also using hostmonster and am experiencing the same issue. I can see that my website has been throttled for 1206 seconds in last 24 hours which has certainly slowdown my website.

My question now is Is there anyway of lowering down the throttling time or should I switch to dedicated server? My site currently gets not more than 1500 page views on any day and is built on drupal.

I think 1500 pageviews is too much for Hostmonster. If your blog gets viral traffic from a source like Digg, StumbleUpon or Tweetmeme, Hostmonster will make you lose it all. You may consider server4you. I think I will switch to it late this year. http://trustler.com/search?about=Hosting&con=Se…
